Sailing conditions in Greece

Greece enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which means hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters which makes the sailing conditions in Greece great for sailing. The Meltemi winds, blowing from the north in the Aegean Sea, are characteristic of this region and can be challenging, especially during the summer months. The spring months are an excellent time for sailing. The weather is warm but not hot, and the water is starting to heat up. The winds are usually mild and stable. In summer, temperatures can reach 30-35°C. Meltemi winds can reach speeds of up to 7-8 on the Beaufort scale, which is a challenge for less experienced sailors. Autumn is similar to spring – warm water, milder temperatures and stable winds. This is the perfect time for more relaxed sailing without crowds of tourists. Sailing in winter is less popular, although possible. Conditions are less predictable and winds can be stronger and more variable.
