About an hour from Athens there is a paradise island of Agistri covered with pine forest, which will enchant us with its charm even during a short stay. Sailing trip to this island is the perfect place for a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Walking around Agistri, you can encounter numerous wild peacocks, which were brought here several centuries ago, adding to the unique character of the island. Picturesque beaches and quiet coves invite you to swim in the crystal clear waters, and the local taverns serve delicious Greek cuisine.
On the east coast of the Peloponnese peninsula, by two bays, lies Palea Epidavros. It is an important point on the map of every sailor, mainly because of the best-preserved Greek theater, which is part of the ancient sanctuary of Asclepius. The theater in Epidavros, known for its excellent acoustics, still hosts performances and festivals, which makes a visit here a unique experience. Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, Palea Epidavros also offers the opportunity to visit the surrounding ruins and enjoy the tranquility of the Greek province.
Further south is the island of Poros, whose showcase is the characteristic clock tower, from which there are unforgettable views of Poros, but also of the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese. Poros is known for its narrow streets, full of traditional houses and taverns. Although the island is relatively small, it offers many attractions that can be explored in a few hours. It is worth visiting local museums, churches and beautiful beaches that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
Another point worth visiting is the island of Hydra, which looks almost fabulous from the deck of the yacht. Hydra is the only Greek island where there are hardly any cars. The means of transport here are horses, donkeys and your own legs, which adds to its unique charm. This island is known for its beautiful stone houses, narrow streets and numerous artistic galleries. A walk through Hydra is a real journey back in time, where you can admire the architecture of the 19th century and enjoy the tranquillity that the island offers.
A frequent destination from Athens is also the Cyclades, which, however, due to strong Meltemi winds, are recommended only for experienced skippers. The Meltemi are northerly winds that can reach a lot of strength, which makes it difficult for less experienced sailors. Still, the Cyclades offer extraordinary views, from the white houses of Santorini to the bustling beaches of Mykonos, providing a great challenge and reward for sailors who choose this destination.
