Dreaming of a vacation on the water, but unsure how much a yacht charter really costs? Is it just a luxury for the few, or could it be a unique holiday that won’t break your budget? In this post, we’ll clear up all the doubts!

If you're just starting your sailing adventure or simply looking for a safe and trusted destination – Croatia and Greece are absolutely top choices. In Croatia, you’ll be amazed by the dozens of islands, charming towns, and the close proximity to Poland. Greece, on the other hand, offers warm seas, Mediterranean cuisine, ancient ruins, and endless coves – perfect for anchoring under the stars.

How Much Does a Yacht Charter Cost? – Realistic Price Ranges

The price depends on a few factors: the size and type of yacht (sailing yacht or catamaran), number of people, the timing (high vs. low season), and whether you need a skipper.

In high season (July–August), a well-equipped sailing yacht for 6–12 people costs around €3,500–€4,500 per week. Off-season (May, October), the same yacht can cost even half as much – starting from €1,200. Of course, it’s possible to find cheaper yachts too – from €700–€1,000 per week. Keep in mind, though, that these are often older boats, with basic equipment, less comfort, or limited space.

A catamaran – larger and more comfortable – costs between €4,500 and €8,000 in high season. But if you go in spring or fall, you can find great offers starting from €2,500.

What About Additional Costs?

Sure, there are a few extra things to consider besides the charter fee:

  • Skipper – If you don’t have a sailing license, you can hire a professional skipper. With us, it’s €200 per day, plus their travel and food costs.
  • Fuel – Depending on your route, average fuel costs are around €100–€150 per week. If you mostly sail, you’ll spend less.
  • Food – It depends on your lifestyle onboard. If you cook together and shop locally, it’s about €40 per person per day. If you dine out in taverns every evening – the budget may rise to €80 per person per day.
  • Port fees – These vary by location, but it’s good to set aside around €200–€600 for the entire crew.
  • Tourist tax – In Croatia, there’s a tourist tax of approx. €1.40 per person per day, paid when picking up the yacht.
  • Final cleaning – This is mandatory and added by the charter company – it usually ranges from €170 to €600 for the whole yacht, depending on its size.

Is Chartering a Yacht Worth It?

Split these costs between 6, 8, or 10 people and suddenly you realize that an unforgettable week under sail costs about the same as a standard resort vacation. Except... you have your own yacht, postcard views, a different port each day, and evenings spent with friends or family under the sunset, not at a hotel buffet.

It’s freedom, flexibility in planning your route, intimacy, and adventure – something no other type of vacation can offer.
