Sukosan is a charming village located south of Zadar in the deep bay of Zlatna luka. This small village boasts a Mediterranean flair with narrow streets, paradisiacal beaches and the hospitality of the locals, making it the perfect place for a yacht charter. Sukosan offers as much as 10 km of coastline, which is famous for its crystal clear waters. The most popular beaches are Dječji Raj (Paradise for Children) and Makarska plaža. Dječji Raj is a sandy beach ideal for families with children, thanks to its gentle entry into the water. Makarska beach, on the other hand, is more rocky, but offers crystal clear water and stunning views of the Adriatic Sea. In Sukošan, you can find several interesting sights. One of them is the Church of St. Cassian, which dates back to the fifteenth century. Another important site is the remains of the summer residence of the bishops of Zadar, known as the "Palace" (Palace), which is located on a small island in the bay.

Rent a yacht from Sukosan: Cruise direction Island of Iž

Sailing boat close to Iž island

Departing from Sukošan, most sailors head their boats towards popular destinations such as the Kornati archipelago or the Telašćica Nature Park, which are widely described in every guidebook. However, today we would like to invite you to discover the lesser-known, but equally charming island of Iž. The journey from Sukošan to the island of Iž is a relatively short sailing trip depending on weather conditions and the type of boat. The route leads through the calm waters of the Bay of Zadar, bypassing the islands of Pašman and Ugljan. The waters around Sukošan and the island of Iž are generally calm and the winds are favourable for sailing, making yachting an ideal way to explore the region. The island of Iž is an oasis of peace, away from the hustle and bustle and tourist crowds that can be found on the more famous islands. Its landscape is dominated by lush vegetation, olive groves and vineyards that give it a unique charm. Walking around the island, you will encounter numerous paths leading through forested hills and coves, offering stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and neighbouring islands. We especially recommend climbing the highest peak on the island – Korinjak, which, despite its small size (168 m above sea level), offers wonderful views of the surrounding islands, especially at sunset.

The island of Iž offers numerous charming beaches and coves that are less crowded than those on the mainland. The main town on the island is Veli Iž, which has preserved its traditional Dalmatian character. Narrow, stone streets, old houses and local taverns create a unique atmosphere that takes us back in time. The Church of St. Peter and Paul and the local museum, which showcases the island's rich history and culture, are worth a visit.

Marina Veli Iž is also located in this town. The marina has 50 berths for yachts up to 20 m in length and with a draught of up to 3.5 m. It is open all year round and is equipped with sanitary facilities. Unfortunately, the island of Iž does not have its own petrol station, but the nearest one is in the village of Zaglav on the neighbouring island of Dugi Otok.

Sightseeing tour of the island of Dugi Otok during a bareboat yacht charter from Sukosan: What attractions does the island offer besides the Telašćica National Park?

Sailing in Zadar region

Dugi Otok, the longest island of the Zadar archipelago, is a place of extraordinary beauty and natural diversity. It is located not far from the island of Iž, so you can visit both islands in one cruise. Although Telašćica National Park is one of the main attractions, the island offers much more. Sakarun Beach is one of the most beautiful places on Dugi Otok. It is located on the northwest coast of the island and is known for its white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. Many sailors compare this beach with the Caribbean coast, which proves its extraordinary beauty and exotic character. The Strašna Peć Cave, located in the central part of the island, is one of the oldest and most famous caves in the region. The cave offers fascinating rock formations and mysterious corridors to explore. It also has historical significance because it was inhabited by people already in prehistoric times. Dugi Otok offers spectacular cliffs that rise to a height of over 160 meters above sea level. The island's coastline is diverse, from rocky coves to sandy beaches, making it the perfect place to explore a variety of landscapes.

Sukošan and the surrounding islands offer a wide range of bareboat yacht charter, tailored to the different needs and preferences of sailors. You will find here both modern catamarans, elegant sailing yachts and fast motor yachts. In addition, this region is characterized by a great sailing infrastructure. Numerous marinas, well-equipped ports and technical services ensure comfort and safety during the entire cruise, which encourages bareboat yacht charters right here.
