The island of Murter is located in the stunning location of the Sibenik archipelago. The largest island of the this archipelago is only a dozen or so meters away from the mainland. Access to the island is facilitated by a bridge from the village of Tisno connecting it with the mainland, which is open around the clock except for two thirty-minute breaks at 9 am and 6 pm. Characteristic of the island is the large number of olive trees, which is part of its charm, but also part of the island's economy, as oliwe oil is produced here. There is something for everyone on the island, from hidden coves where you can take a breather to picturesque beaches, both sandy and rocky, making it a popular destination for yacht charter in Croatia. Murter is the largest village on the island, located on two bays Slanica and Hramina. St. Michael's Church (Crkva sv. Mihovila) is one of the most important monuments in Murter. Built in the seventeenth century, the church stands out for its Baroque architecture and beautiful interior. The ruins of the Roman villa rustica near the city are proof of the rich history of the region. Archaeological finds include fragments of mosaics, building foundations, and remains of ancient structures that testify to the site's former glory.
The island of Murter is also famous for its beautiful beaches and charming bays, which attract tourists looking for relaxation and contact with nature. One of the most popular beaches is Slanica, which offers a sandy shore and crystal clear waters. The beach is a great place for sea bathing, sunbathing and a variety of water sports.
The island is considered the gateway to the Kornati Islands – a beautiful 150 islands with a variety of nature and stunning cliffs.
There are three marinas at your disposal on the island of Murter: Marina Hramina, Marina Betina and Marina ACI Jezera. Rent a boat and enjoy the freedom to explore the Kornati archipelago at your own pace. However, if you plan to sail towards the Kornati archipelago, the best solution is to start from Marina Hramina. The Kornati archipelago, located in central Dalmatia, is one of the most spectacular national parks in Croatia and one of the most popular sailing destinations on the Adriatic. Consisting of more than 140 islands and islets, Kornati offer extraordinary landscapes, crystal clear waters, and an abundance of marine life. One of the most spectacular views in Kornati is the impressive cliffs that rise steeply above the Adriatic Sea. The most famous cliffs are located on the islands of Mana, Rašip, and Klobučar. The view from the sea of these huge, white rocks is truly breathtaking. It is also worth mentioning the Tureta fortress, which is one of the most characteristic defensive structures on the Kornati islands. It is located on the island of Kornat - the largest island in the archipelago. The fortress was built in the fifteenth century by the Venetians and played a defensive role against pirates and invaders. Its strategic location on a hill made it possible to control the nearby waters and islands. Today, the fortress is a popular tourist destination that offers spectacular views of the Kornati archipelago and the Adriatic Sea. One of the advantages of the Kornati islands is that they are located away from the hustle and bustle of cities, bars, discos and popular hiking trails. In this charming corner of the Adriatic, you will experience a peace that is hard to find elsewhere. At night, the sky is lit up with a million stars, and the only sound you will hear is the soft sound of the waves. Just sailing through the labyrinth of the Kornati islands is an unforgettable experience. Scenic routes lead through narrow canals, between high cliffs and through calm waters, offering unparalleled views and experiences.
Sailing in the Kornati National Park requires a special permit, which can be purchased online. The fee does not depend on the number of people, but is determined by the length of the yacht. The entrance fees to the park are intended for the protection and maintenance of this unique area. 58 buoys have been placed on the Kornati islands to moor. In order to protect the underwater ecosystem, all buoys are anchored directly to the rocks instead of being attached to concrete blocks. These buoys are designed for yachts up to 16 meters in length, and the fee for their use is already included in the price of the park ticket. In the Kornati National Park, the only marina is ACI Marina Piskera. It is located in a narrow channel between the island of Piskera and Penitula Vela. The marina operates seasonally and is available from April 1 to October 31.
When sailing from Murter, it is also worth visiting the surrounding islands located in close proximity. One of the islands worth seeing is Vrgada. It is a small mostly uninhabited island that is ideal for sailors looking for a secluded place to relax on the Adriatic. If you decide to disembark, there are 20 buoys to moor between the beach and the neighbouring, deserted island of Artina.
Vrgada is a place where time passes more slowly and nature delights with its unspoiled beauty. In the vicinity of Murter there are many similar islands that offer peace and relaxation in beautiful landscapes.
